We lost two hens and a rooster to a hawk just over a month ago and similarly curtailed the freedom of our hens. A full length mirror laid in the chicken yard seems to have frightened away all aerial attackers. But I suppose a fox might just look in a mirror and say to himself "what a handsome fellow!"Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5484860057974226820.post-74917517842273766942010-04-22T10:46:40.556-04:002010-04-22T10:46:40.556-04:00oh! Yes, despite the warnings about the energy levels and neuroticsms of those breeds, there are some of us who mesh very well with those dogs! So the feathers in field were the remains of our hens.
And funny -- you just named my fav dog breeds!fiona@fionacampbell.cahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09455351263890165906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5484860057974226820.post-24229569106208962992010-04-22T07:41:46.218-04:002010-04-22T07:41:46.218-04:00Wow, I can just see you running out there after it...Wow, I can just see you running out there after it! I hear they are bold and hard to trap, "smart like a fox" is a true statement I guess. Where do you think the feathers in the field came from? Do neighbors have poultry? I am waiting too, on hearing how others deal with/prevent this problem. And dogs, oh, my husband would have to tie me down if someone told me to get more, LOL, I Erinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06916896512933101955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5484860057974226820.post-37992466994254460442010-04-21T21:32:10.301-04:002010-04-21T21:32:10.301-04:00Thanks, Sandy! Raccoons have been another thing....

Good luck!

SandySpring Lake Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06099882615130359566noreply@blogger.com
