Here are some ideas for sizing adjustments:
For a 6 year oldish child, Cast on 90 stitches. Do everything the same but make the hat 5 or 6" high before beginning to decrease, and place markers every 10 stitches (so you'll have 9 markers).
For an adult, I&The Knitty Gritty Homesteadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02890656094078973552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5484860057974226820.post-54364889630564196852010-06-26T01:36:52.315-04:002010-06-26T01:36:52.315-04:00I really enjoyed reading about what you are growin...I really enjoyed reading about what you are growing! After all these years and a whole lotta life in between, we are still connected - now through our gardening. I, too, am an heirloom fanatic...maybe we can swap some seeds? Ella helped me plant some double impatiens and sweet peas as well as some fushcia (Jack thinks the blooms look like fireworks!) The deck is a relatively new addition to our farmhouse and we're slowly "greening" it with plants and such. I'd like to build an arbour and grow grapes or hops... maybe next year?!fiona@fionacampbell.cahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09455351263890165906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5484860057974226820.post-82995997201171163112010-06-25T16:58:00.834-04:002010-06-25T16:58:00.834-04:00Your deck garden is beautiful! And I've been thinking about using shade cloth into the garden - it's on my "to research" list, lol!
I giggled at your "gotta go pick dinner" comment. We tried a lettuce this year named Butter Crunch and we love it! Shade cloth means we can grow all summer, and yes, no slugs. Our favorites are always spinach, Mesclun mix, and the traditional types (arugula and leaf).

When we are having friends over for dinner, my husband will pick the colander out of the spinner, look at ourmustangsabbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17707225107118474228noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5484860057974226820.post-56915195111156907642010-06-25T12:13:41.992-04:002010-06-25T12:13:41.992-04:00Susan -- thanks for the kind words. I may be a little strange because I love gardening so much but I enjoy looking at the herbs and salad greens just about as much as blooming flowers. I find it impossible to walk by my spearmint without rubbing the leaves and inhaling the fragrance on my fingers.

A wonderfully written post, Fiona.
