Yay, she's back! But what IS that thing, a mushroom? a year's worth of bread dough? A giant Canandian chicken egg? I could guess all day...LOL

hmmm I clicked "post" and saw that I think I spelled Canuck wrong, I'm not really that dumb :)

That, my friend, IS a mushroom!

Uh, did you EAT it? I mean was it edible? (Yes, I know. I need a copy of "Mushroom Identification for Dummies.")

So good to have you posting! Missed you.

Amazing, I have never seen one that big....not even close.

Wow! that is a big one!
We slice them up like pancakes and saute them in butter.
How do you eat them?

Wow, that is one big mushroom. We don't have anything like that in Nebraska. Our mushrooms are only harvested in the spring of the year here. It's good to see you back posting again.

I'm thinking this mushroom is going to need its own blog post!

As an aside -- You folks sure are troopers for coming back after weeks of radio silence. I appreciate your comments -- every last one.

We seriously Follow you, Fiona, and worry about you when you don't post. And that is a larger mushroom than I have ever seen! Can you eat them? I have to admit that unless I buy them in a store I would be afraid to eat them. I'm a gastronomic scaredy cat. :(

Hi there,

We found a large puffball like this a couple of years ago.
We sliced off the top, scooped out some of the inner mushroom, then cooked bacon, small pieces of steak and potatoes with onion. Placed it all back in the puffball, re-attached the top with butter, wrapped it in foil and cooked in the oven.

You serve it as a scoop of the stew with a slice of the mushroom...wonderful!

You should try it next time you find a decent sized one. :)

Yeah, but what I want to know is . . . was the mushroom placed right in front of the camera for a trick of the eye? ;) (Couldn't resist.)

Happy Birthday, friend! Miss your posts! Mom and I were talking about you last night - everything okay?

xo

Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Fiona, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

(The fortunate part of the above birthday greeting is that you couldn't actually hear me singing it. [I can't carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it!])

Sending lots of love and best wishes and a big hug to you on your special day.

A birthday wish for you (totally selfish on my part) would be that the coming year finds you with more time to post regularly. Miss your posts so much!

Mamas x 2 -- I just got back from a birthday hike with the dog (hubbie at work, kids at school -- at least I have a zoo of animals to keep me company!) and what lovely comments to come home to! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Yes, all is ok. Been very busy with work lately which is good for the bank account, but not so good for me. I'm feeling totally out of balance, like there's a part of me missing. I certainly miss blogging -- writing AND reading -- and your company, of course! My hope is to stop being so busy and try just "being" for a bit. That's when I get my best blogging in. :)
Thanks again, ladies! xoxo
P.S. The mushroom actually was that big! I will post some other photos soon -- perhaps one with Ella playing it like a bongo and another with my foot as comparison!

Fiona, you know you simply cannot post about eating a giant puffball mushroom and then not post for months. We see you laid out around the kitchen table clutching lilies!

Fiona,

I only too well know how easily time can pass between blog posts - sure that you are busy and hopefully well, and that the winter there is not too harsh. Sending Christmas blessings to you, take care, see you next year!
